As companies around the world face new ESG reporting requirements and complex data environments, many are turning to technology to simplify the process. Astellas Pharma Inc decided to collaborate with IBM Japan and leverage IBM Envizi ESG Suite to further streamline their data management. The collaboration comes ahead of mandated sustainability disclosures, including those mandated by the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).  

The CSRD is European Union (EU) legislation, effective from 5 January 2023, that requires EU businesses and qualifying EU subsidiaries of non-EU companies to disclose their environmental and social impacts, and how their ESG actions affect their business. Since similar legislation is also being enacted outside of Europe, some companies are accelerating their efforts to strengthen data management.   

Astellas Pharma is using IBM Envizi, an ESG data management and reporting platform, to prepare for information disclosure in the fiscal year 2025 onwards. Accenture, an IBM business partner, will provide comprehensive support for the introduction of Envizi, and IBM Japan will support the technical implementation and operation.  

Accenture will provide comprehensive support for the development of an ESG data infrastructure, from formulating a concept to organizing requirements and implementing Envizi, leveraging its deep knowledge of sustainability and its technology implementation capabilities. IBM Japan will provide technical support for the implementation of Envizi, as well as the collection and operation of various data, leveraging its global knowledge and track record of using Envizi to support clients' ESG disclosures, including CSRD compliance.  

This collaboration is a prime example of how IBM supports companies in finding an efficient way to manage, analyze, and report their sustainability data across the globe by leveraging Envizi.
