IBM has been a leader in corporate diversity and inclusion for decades. The convergence of racial injustice and the global pandemic have amplified the stark need for greater progress from society and business, and further inspired IBM’s conviction and commitment. It is our belief that engendering the values of diversity, inclusion and equity makes us all stronger. As part of this commitment and to help celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, we produced the following video, The Infrastructure Builders: IBM Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. It recognizes and commemorates the tremendous contributions of the Pan-Asian community in building critical infrastructure – from the Transcontinental Railroad to the newly-created IBM Digital Health Pass, which is designed to help people get back to the activities they love following the global pandemic. The video spotlights IBM inventors such as Leo Esaki– 1973 Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Chung-Chin Kao – who “electrified the Chinese language” with the world’s first electro-automatic typewriter for the Chinese written language, and many more innovators from the past and today.
