IBM Recognizes the Service and Skills of U.S. Military Veterans

On this Veterans Day, IBM recognizes, honors and thanks the women and men who have served their country in the U.S. military. Initiatives across the company acknowledge the accomplishments of our military veterans and provide career opportunities for those moving into the workforce.

In addition to their much-appreciated service, veterans bring valuable skills, knowledge and experience to the workplace. IBM is focused on bringing more veterans into the company and training others for 21st-century technology roles.

Key initiatives include:

• IBM is committed to hiring 2,000 veterans by 2020 as a part of the Veteran 2K Hiring Initiative. We are already 60 percent of the way toward that goal. In addition, opportunities are available to veterans through IBM partnerships and training programs.
• More than 700 veterans have taken part in i2 Analyst’s Notebook and QRadar training, offered through our Military Fellowship Program and other partnerships. This video on the Military Fellowship Program profiles veterans who are now IBMers, such as IBM Cyber Security Analyst Charles Johnston, retired SFC with the U.S. Army who served in Iraq.

• Twenty percent of participants in the IBM Apprenticeship Program, which prepares participants for new collar careers, are U.S. military veterans. They are being trained for roles across the company, including positions in blockchain, cyber security, software development and design.

Through these and other efforts, IBM was named Military Friendly Employer of the Year for 2018.

For Veterans Day 2018, IBM is debuting profiles of veterans and active service members at IBM, who are publicly sharing stories of their service. In addition, the company has created a virtual Military Honor Wall, a digital space where employees can pay tribute to our servicemen and women by sharing a message of thanks, telling a story, or sharing a photo.

Veterans at IBM are marking November 12 as a Day of Service with community projects, such as providing U.S. Marines leaving on deployment with care packages. And career fairs and other activities recognizing and supporting veterans are happening at IBM locations across the country.
